WHEN Will Birmingham came to compete in his first Ironman last Sunday (September 9) in Tenby, he never thought he would end up in so much trouble as a result.

As he entered the first turn of the swim, left of Goscar Rock and the furthest point of the course from the harbour, Mr Birmingham’s wedding ring slipped from his finger and into the water.

Now Mr Birmingham, who is from Kent, is asking everyone to keep an eye out as they take a stroll along the Tenby beaches.

Milford Mercury:

“Obviously this ring represents the ultimate commitment that we made to each other two years ago and it’s the only thing that I didn’t plan for on an otherwise wonderful weekend in Tenby,” he said.

“It would make the whole Ironman journey (including everything my wife has had to put up with over the last two years) a story to truly remember if it was now found and returned safely.”

Unless found, Mr Birmingham said he may have to “hang up the Lycra for a while” until his wife has forgiven him.

The ring is platinum with “03.09.16” engraved on the inside, the date of the wedding.

“It's not worth a huge amount of money,” he said. “But obviously the sentimental value means its irreplaceable.

“Finding it might also give me half a chance of getting my wife to agree to me competing in another Triathlon in my lifetime!”
