"TO SEE someone you love and care for get to a point where she couldn't even recognise her own family is heart-breaking," says Fishguard's Timothy Clarke of his late grandmother, Nanny Coo.

Nanny Coo died on April 15, 2013. Towards the end of her life she and her family lived with the daily challenges that dementia brings both to sufferers and their loved ones.

This weekend Timothy, along with his cousin, Rebecca Morgan, is setting off on a 177 mile trek of Offa's Dyke in Nanny Coo's memory and to raise funds and awareness for Dementia UK.

"We want to fundraise for dementia UK so that families going through the same thing that we did can have the help and support they need in such a difficult time," said Timothy.

"There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers set to rise to over one million by 2025 and two million by 2051," he explained.

"This year 225,000 people will develop dementia, that's one every three minutes."

Timothy and Rebecca have been training hard for the mammoth 177 mile trek along the Offa's Dyke path from Chepstow in south Wales up the Welsh / English boarder, ending at Prestatyn Beach.

They are hoping to raise £500 for Dementia UK via their JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/arewethereyet-2018.

They estimate that challenge will take around 12 days to complete. The pair will be carrying their kit and camping for the duration of the challenge.
