Bonymaen Colts 1
Goodwick United 2
Mecurial James Dean scored twice to earn Goodwick United a thoroughly deserved victory at Bonymaen Colts.
The hosts play in Swansea League division two, and are one of the favourites to claim promotion, so this was always going to be a potential banana skin for the visitors.
However, the clash got off to a feisty start that saw both sides reduced to ten men with only ten minutes on the clock; Lee Burrows and Bonymaen’s centre half issued straight red cards.
Steve Blackford’s troops coped with the one-man loss the better as Dean opened the scoring on 25 minutes.
Rhys Dalling was the creator with a tricky run down the right wing and his cross fell to Dean on the edge of the area, the striker beat two defenders before rounding the keeper and tucking home into the empty net. Dean added his second of the cup-tie on 65 minutes. This time he rose highest in the box to plant a firm header into the back of the net that was provided by James Evans’ wellplaced corner.
Ten minutes from full time the hosts pulled a goal back but Goodwick stood firm to deservedly reach the quarter finals.
Goodwick manager Steve Blackford said: “James Dean was outstanding and both his goals were quality finishes. We missed chances but overall we were the better team. I’m delighted that we won and are in the hat for the next round.”
