Cooper comes to Vikings' rescue

SUPER sub Michael Cooper scored an extra-time winner for Hakin United who made hard work of beating Seven Sisters in the first round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup at The Obs.
Gary Dawes team were missing a few key players such as striker Justin Harding (knee injury), midfielder Ashley Bevan (not registered in time), defender Matthew Broome (injured) and skipper Ewan Findlay (suspended).
The hosts led 2-1 at half time against the Neath Premier League outfit and former Welsh League outfit, who were playing in this competition for the first time.
James Stanmore broke the deadlock in the 25th minute for the hosts. Veteran Paul Jones carved out the scoring opportunity, with Stanmore drilling his low shot into the back of the net from 12 yards out.
But within five minutes of taking the lead the visitors equalised when Simon Wiveridge headed in from inside the box.
Just before the break and Aaron Owens struck from 15 yards that gave the Vikings the upper hand in this cup-tie.
Both sides cancelled each other out in the second period, but smack on full time Daniel Evans headed home from a corner to force the tie into extra time.
The Vikings showed tremendous character in the 115th minute when substitute Cooper, was in the right place at the right time, striking a low drive into the back of the net for a timely winner.
