Newcastle Emlyn 2

Wrexham 2

NEWCASTLE Emlyn Ladies recently played host to their counterparts from Wrexham at Parc Emlyn in the Women’s Welsh Premier League, and did well to come away with a hard-fought draw against very experienced opposition.

The first half ended goalless with both sides evenly matched on the pitch and with a great battle in midfield. It was an exciting half with both teams having chances and Vicky Prior for Emlyn making a super save just before half time.

The second half saw a total of four goals but this could have been undoubtedly more in Emlyn’s favour. Emlyn took a better hold of the game at the start of the second half with Caroline Cooper making some crucial tackles and Marie Tilley and Bethan Roberts making some essential tactical moves that allowed Emlyn to take the lead finally in the 63rd minute, courtesy of Stacey John.

Wrexham responded with a goal to equalize via Lindsey Rogers at the 70th minute via a great free kick. Both teams were out to pick up the three points and at the end of a great passing spell Carrie Slack took the lead for Emlyn on 73 minutes to make it 2 -1.

The game continued to be intense with some super challenges and saves being made by both teams but Wrexham won a penalty in injury time. Lindsey Rogers again for Wrexham scored to make it 2 -2 as the final score.
