St Ishmaels 3

St Clears 1

ST ISHMAELS picked up a thoroughly deserved win over St Clears that lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Realistic Tish manager Marc Devonald was pleased that his young side had finally broken their duck. “It’s been a hard season and it’s difficult to lift the boys every week when they lose,” said Devonald. “There’s still a long way to go, but this result will give us confidence as we strive to avoid relegation.”

The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute as Nick Squire ran clear and tucked the ball past Jonathan Pawlett. However, the hosts equalised in the 25th minute when keeper Pawlett’s long punt upfield led to striker Gareth Cheshire nodding home.

Tish dominated the second half and deservedly took the lead in the 60th minute, Cheshire and Joel Morgan combined as the latter’s cross saw Paul Palmer side-foot into the empty net.

Ten minutes from full time and Joseph Bate added a third, the 17-year-old latching onto Morgan’s cross from the right and making no mistake from eight yards.
