Johnston 3

Neyland 1

JOE John scored twice to help Johnston to a hard-fought victory against close neighbours Neyland.

This was the only game played in division one because of the adverse weather and this clash was switched from Glebelands to Hillcroft.

To make matters worse for both teams there was a horrendous gale-force wind for players to cope with. John opened the scoring in the 20th minute, heading in Steve Mills’ throw-in in the box.

Nicky Woodrow added the Tigers’ second goal; the striker struck a wicked left footed shot from eight yards that was set-up by a precision James Skudder cross from the right. The Nomads nearly broke their duck as Sean Hannon struck the crossbar with a thumping 35-yard free-kick. The Nomads were awarded a penalty that stand-in goalkeeper Joel Codd saved to deny luckless Sean Hannon.

Just before half time and the Tigers added a third goal, Woodrow assisted for co-striker John to score with a simple tap-in.

After the break the Nomads pulled one back in the 80th minute, Patrick Bellerby latching onto a through ball and making no mistake, but it was a classic case of too little too late for the Nomads.

After this result, Johnston has moved up to third in the table and Neyland sit in ninth.
