Pwll Athletic 1
A STUNNING second-half hat-trick by veteran Paul Jones earned Hakin United a comfortable passage into the West Wales Intermediate Cup quarter-final at the expense of Pwll Athletic.
The Vikings travelled to play against their Carmarthenshire League Division One rivals last week, but when they arrived the cup-tie was postponed before a ball was kicked due to adverse weather conditions.
However, this Saturday, the game was switched to The Obeservatory Ground, and the Vikings took full advantage and cruised into the last eight of this prestigious competition.
Ashley Bevan broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, the left sided-midfielder rounded the right back before unleashing a low unstoppable left footed drive in the far corner.
Ten minutes before the interval and the Vikings doubled the lead when defender Leigh Broome headed in at a corner.
After the interval the Vikings totally dominated proceedings with Jonah skipping past the keeper for the third.
Central midfielder Jonathan Bennett bagged the fourth ten minutes later, before Jonah added a fifth, tucking the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.
Gavin Evans pulled a late goal back for the visitors, but Jonah had the final say as he cheekily chipped the keeper and celebrated victory and a superb treble.
Hakin United: James Manson, Ewan Findlay, Leigh Broome, Gareth Fawcett, Nathan Banner, Steve Allen, Jonathan Bennett, Steve Mathias, Ashley Bevan, James Stanmore, Paul Jones. Subs: Paul Jenkins, Michael Cooper, Damien Ellis.
