THE BRITISH LEGION snooker team from Milford Haven made it a league and cup double when they comfortably defeated Saundersfoot Sports Club in the KO Cup final on Monday.

The Legion were the winners of the division one title this season, and a sparkling display of potting by Mark McCarthy in the third frame made sure of the KO Cup silverware.

The format of the final was five games of singles on aggregate scores, with the Legion having a 50-point start for being a division two outfit.

The Sports Club’s Darren Morgan was trailing for the entire first frame until he potted the black to win by three points against David Malloy.

The Legion’s Richard Jones had a bad start to the second frame, conceding four fouls and giving his opponent Dean Ludlow an early lead. But good potting from Richard saw him claw back the lead and he went on to win the frame by six points.

Glyn Davies of the Sports Club let slip a 20-odd point lead on two occasions in the third frame against Paul Malloy. The Legion cueist battled hard to reduce the deficit each time, and to add to Glyn’s woes he went in-off the black to lose the frame by 13 points.

A confident Mark McCarthy (Legion) made an early break of 23 in the fourth frame, and pressed home his advantage to take the frame by 27 points against David Wooles.

With a points advantage of nearly a hundred points to the Legion, the final frame was of little importance, but the Sports Club’s Martin Durham narrowly defeated Gareth Barrett to end a dismal evening for his team.
