Gents

A SUNNY day with an awkward wind greeted the field of 74 gents competing for the Under 50s and Veterans Trophy on Saturday. This was a stableford competition bringing welcome relief from the recent spate of medal events.

Once again there was some exceptional scoring as Scott Griffiths won with a sensational 47 points and strode away with the Under 50s prize with Liam Fawcett bagging 42 points off his new handicap into second place.

Richard Brock showed his class in the unfortunately named Veterans category winning with 43 points followed by the evergreen Atlantic voyager Peter Ryder with 39 points.

The reward for those in form was a handicap reduction! Scott , Richard and Liam feeling the wrath of hatchet Dai Humphreys with a loss of 3 and 2 shots respectively. Others to lose shots were: - Tristan Carlson, Scott Davies, Leigh Evans, Andrew Jones, Peter Ryder and Wayne Warlow.

There were 12 twos recorded worth a respectable £6.16 each in the pro shop:- Tony Pratt, Peter Ryder, Anthony Jobson x 2, Phil Davies, Gareth Fairburn, Paul Eva, Leigh Evans, Liam Fawcett, Scott Griffiths and Humphreys Senior and Junior.

Congratulations were extended to Shaun Dyson and Liam Eva who progressed to the 4th round of the Victory Shield competition by convincingly beating a team from Builth Wells 3&2 at Machynys Golf Club. They will next play a team from Aberdovey at a neutral venue.

Next week sees Lady Captain's Day which is a stableford competition and which the gents are encouraged to support.

Seniors

LAST Thursday saw 36 enter the competition, and winner was H Jones with 40 points, 2, Frank Rimmer 39 points, winning on back nine, 3, Richard Settersfield 39 points.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, only eight ladies played in the weekly competition due to other commitments, and the winner was Eileen Davies with 34 points and the runner up was Mary Christopher with 33 points. A note of mention is that the twos kitty was won solely by Enid De Wolf who chipped in for a birdie off the back of the green on hole 16, so she earned the prize pot.

Last Friday, a team of ten ladies travelled to Cardigan to play a league match and came home with a resounding win of 5-0. The team comprised of Liz Durward, Pauline Summons, Margaret Hicks, Enid De Wolf, Karen Pullen, Pat Evans, Eileen Jenkins, Veronica John, Eileen Davies and Sylvia Rees.

On Sunday, 19 ladies played in the Rookery Nook competition. A nice turn out, and the weather stayed dry and a bit of sunshine which was a bonus. The winner was Eileen Davies with 71 nett and the runner-up was the Lady Captain Pat Evans with 72 nett.

Juniors

THE juniors played for the Moore Cup which is a stableford competition. There's no stopping Jay Power at present. He again recorded a very good score of 37 points to narrowly take first place from Josh Lewis with 36 points.
