Carew coast to local derby success

10:06am Wednesday 2nd July 2014

Carew (103 for 0) beat Lawrenny (101 all out) by 10 wickets

CAREW completely dominated their local derby tussle with Lawrenny as they got on top early on in the field and shot the visitors out for only 101 runs before speeding to their target without loss in only 17 overs.

James Buckle (15), Andrew Cole (12) and Johnny Mathias (13) all made steady starts for Lawrenny but Tim Hicks bowled superbly as he grabbed 5 for 9 in 12 hostile overs to put the skids on their innings. Rhys Davies (2 for 39 in 12 overs), Simon Wood (1 for 21 in eight overs) and Rob Scourfield (2 for 12 in 3.3 overs) provided Hicks with the necessary support and although Joe Kidney (31 not out) batted well against his former colleagues the final target of 102 runs to win was not considered overly challenging.

And that is just the way it turned out because Carew raced away after Sefton was dropped early on and made Lawrenny pay with seven fours and four sixes in his 66 not out, with Nick Scourfield as the perfect foil with five boundaries in his undefeated 33.

Umpires: Les Hastings & Rob Cousins.

Scorers: Julie Davies & Malcolm Thomas.
