Narberth win with plenty to spare

11:02am Wednesday 2nd July 2014

Saundersfoot (121 for 6) lost to Narberth (123 for 1)

NARBERTH were good value for victory as they limited Saundersfoot to a less than satisfactory 121 for 6 in their allotted 45 overs before Ritchie Adams and new recruit Nathan Evans guided Narberth to within sight of success with an opening partnership of 96.

After being asked to bat first Saundersfoot found it very hard going against Ian Hughes, who claimed 3 for 15 in 12 overs, and Ben Quartermaine (who didn’t claim a wicket but only conceded 14 runs in 11 overs, seven of them maidens).

Kamal Sharma (2 for 41) also bowled well and only James Caine (18), Steve Cook (24) and skipper Paul Mansbridge (34) ever looked likely to score runs in the Saundersfoot cause.

Adams led the way for Narberth after tea with eight fours in his 53 not out and Nathan Evans, previously with St Clears, looked likely to make a half century on debut but was out on 48, with nine fours to his name.

But by then the result was more or less settled and Narberth were good value for victory whilst the struggling Seasiders find themselves even further adrift at the foot of the table.

Umpires: Allan Hansen & Richard Merriman.

Scorers: Adge John & Peter Hughes.
