Mills and Sutton power Johnston to another big win

4:05pm Wednesday 2nd July 2014

Johnston (274 for 8) beat Cresselly 2nds (147 all out) by 127 runs

JOHNSTON added another maximum-points victory over Cresselly 2nds to add to their lead at the top of the table after they had built a huge total and managed to bowl out the opposition whilst still 127 runs ahead.

Johnston’s batting has really come alight of late and although they lost veteran opener Johnnie Summons with the score on 16 it brought together the volatile batting of Dan Sutton and Steve Mills.

Sutton has been a little out of sorts recently but he was quickly into his stride as he and Mills, renowned for his equally lusty hitting, put on 204 runs in double quick time, with Sutton rasping six fours and five sixes in reaching 94 before he tried reaching three figures with a six and was caught by Sam Harts on the mid-wicket boundary off Tom Arthur’s bowling.

Mills went on to make an outstanding 118, including 19 fours and three sixes before he was also removed by Arthur as part of a 3 for 50 spell, bowled by a yorker.

Sam Harts (1 for 45) and Nick Davies (4 for 62) were the other Cresselly wicket-takers as Johnston lost late wickets in an inevitable run chase.

Tom Arthur (38), Megan Jenkins (34) and Nick Jones (33) were the pick of the Johnston batting line-up as Mills completed a splendid all-round performance with 5 for 48 alongside Kevin Roberts (2 for 43) and Sutton, who bowled just four balls to finish with a 2 for 0 analysis.

Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Tony Waldeis.

Scorers: Steve Mills (Snr) & Des Brace.
