Hook (216 for 5) drew with Whitland 2nds (133 for 7)

WHITLAND Seconds held on for the draw at Hook and there was a moving movement prior to the game as Whitland’s Paul Webb said a few words and laid some flowers in memory of former team mate Meyrick Rowlands, who passed away on the previous visit of a Whitland team to the Hook ground. There was also a minute’s silence observed by both teams and supporters.

The platform for Hook’s formidable score centred on the opening partnership of 83 between Brennan Lay (39) and Tom Blaxland, who batted throughout the innings for an excellent 96 not out that included 12 fours and two sixes.

Jake Wicks (19) and Jacob Lay (12) were the other main Hook batsmen against Whitland wicket-takers David Dunfee (2 for 51), Matthew Webb (2 for 43) and Paul Webb (1 for 44).

Whitland skipper Wayne Jones (29) was joined by Paul Webb (21) and Gethin Benjamin (21) as main scorers alongside Paul Oeppen (21 not out) but Hook bowlers Dai Hopkins (4 for 19), Jake Wicks (2 for 26) and Andrew Thomas (1 for 34) made sure that Hook stayed on top to pick up the lion’s share of the points.

Umpire: Dai Morris.
