Gents

THE August monthly medal sponsored by Mr Youds of Servicemaster and was played in trying, blustery conditions.

There was some impressive scoring with countback required to separate the top three who all recorded scores of 66 nett. Peter Taylor came out on top to register his first, eagerly awaited win in a monthly medal with form golfer Paul Kingston second. The experienced Jimmy Martin claimed third place. This was a nice birthday present for Peter who this week celebrated reaching the age where he can choose to join the gentlemen in the senior section.

Fourth place was Don Wells, who was turning back the years as he recorded an excellent 67 nett, which on another day might well have been the winning score.

The prize for best gross was won by Shaun Dyson with a splendid 72.

Junior Championship

Saturday Round 1: Pre-tournament favourite Brandon Cooper set about the task of defending his crown with an excellent gross 73, his nearest rivals faltered. In the nett, two members produced great scores; with Jack Wilson scoring nett 63 and Jake Houston taking a first round nett lead with a 59.

Sunday Round 2: Brandon controlled his game to shoot a creditable 78 gross, and regained the title. Josh Lewis was runner-up with a 78 gross, one shot ahead of junior captain Calum Day.

In the nett competition, Josh won the second day with a nett 71, but there was no catching Jake and Jack overall, with Jack Wilson coming second and Jake Houston winning the overall net prize.

During the afternoon some of the very young, and new, Junior Members competed in the seven-hole championship, and in increasingly difficult conditions everyone coped well and played some excellent golf, belying their age and experience. Bobby Jenkins won the stableford with 13 points, and brother Jack was the seven-hole champion with a score of 47 gross.
