Llanrhian (242 for 7) best Lawrenny (222 all out) by 20 runs

THERE were runs aplenty at Llandigige Fawr before Llanrhian marked an excellent first season back in the top echelon with an entertaining 20-run win over Lawrenny.

Jack Jones maintained his good form with the bat as he struck seven fours and a six in his top score of 85 for Llanrhian (including seven fours and a six), sharing a third-wicket stand of 117 with skipper Geraint Morris, whose well-crafted 63 included five fours and a big six. Paul Lewis (36) and Ben Jones (20 not out) were the other main contributors for the homesters as Rob Williams (2 for 37), Jamie Lewis (3 for 54), Alistair Edwards (1 for 51) and Steve Lewis (1 for 40) were the Lawrenny wicket takers.

Steve Lewis also led the Lawrenny batting as he plundered nine fours and five sixes in his sparkling 80 but got himself out when a century seemed on the cards. Johnny Mathias (46 (six fours and two sixes), James Buckle (26) and Andrew Cole (16) also made useful contributions but they lost late wickets to a bowling attack comprising Matthew Bennett (3 for 46), Luke Jones (2 for 46), Gareth Davies (1 for 35), Dominic Wright (1 for 41) and Jack Jones (3 for 52) to fall short of a very big target.
