St Ishmaels (109 all out) lost to Whitland (113 all out) by four runs
THERE was a nail-biting finish in the match between St Ishmaels and Whitland as the latter could only muster 113 runs before clawing their way back into contention as Tish conspired to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in losing by four runs.
Dylan Blain led the Whitland batting with seven boundaries in his 35 as he made Tish regret an earlier dropped catch, with Adam Davies (19) and Matthew Webb (17) providing support against Andrew Palmer (2 for 21), Danny Flynn (3 for 31), Matthew Phillips (1 for 14) and Andrew Pawlett (4 for 14).
Tish looked hot favourites at tea but only Dan Howells (22) and Brennan Devonald (24) looked comfortable against Dan James (4 for 44), Matthew Webb (2 for 37) and Iestyn Scourfield (1 for 7)
But Andrew Pawlett, whose left arm slow stuff had helped Tish earlier on, marched to the crease at No 10 and hit 26 to take his side within a single score of success, only to be bowled by the experienced Mark Lee as part of a canny 3 for 17 haul – and Whitland edged through to success!
Umpires: Steve Blowes & Tony Waldeis.
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Janice Webb.
