Hakin United 3

West Dragons 2

HAKIN United kept their unbeaten league record intact despite trailing 2-0 at home against bottom of the table West Dragons.

The visitors played with a strong wind at their backs in the first half, and with driving rain, conditions made life difficult for both teams.

West Dragons took the lead in the 20th minute, Simon Ellis’ cross in the box caused mayhem and Vikings’ keeper James Manson fumbled and allowed Ashton Plunkett to score with an easy tap-in.

Ten minutes before half time and Jordan Thomas doubled the lead, the midfielder striking a direct free-kick from 22 yards out that flew in the top corner.

However, the champions piled on the pressure in the second half with Dragons keeper Luke Adkins pulling off some terrific saves.

However, the Dragons finally cracked on the hour, Andrew Kingston’s shot from distance flew into the roof of the net, ten minutes later and Gareth Fawcett, equalised with a carbon-copy of the first goal.

The Vikings breathed a sigh of relief as Nicky Woodrow scored an 80th minute winner, the striker drilling a low curling right-foot shot into the bottom right-hand corner to secure the vital points.

Hakin United have gone three points clear at the top of the table following their seventh win of the season and also have a game in hand on Pennar Robins and Merlins Bridge.
