Seniors

LAST Thursday, an excellent turnout of 36 seniors took part in a stableford Yellow Ball competition which had been postponed a couple of times from previous weeks.

The day was dry but overcast; the course having dried out from the previous week with the greens in excellent condition for the time of year.

The competition was a stableford with each player according to the draw having his stableford points doubled on six holes; the winner was 17 handicapper Dick Wooding jnr with 54 points with 21 handicapper Gerald Charles three points adrift in second.

In the twos competition the kitty was shared by four players Frank Rimmer, Ken Davies, David Britton and Dick Wooding jnr.

Presentation was carried out by Brian Mitchell seniors’ captain.

Last Tuesday, 36 players took part in the stableford competition this is by far the best turnout for a Tuesday roll-up.

The weather was dry, but cold with Tony Davey once again showing his true form by winning with 39 points which was an excellent score for the conditions.

The twos kitty was shared by Rolly Council x2, Richard Setterfield, Roy John and John Hicks.

The prize for the nearest to the pin on 16th hole “The Gales” was won by David Britton.

The dates for the senior competitions for February are; 19 stableford and 26 will be a blind team stableford competition will be played when the draw for teams will be done after all the players have gone out to play to the first draw will be held at 10.30am for all the senior Thursday competitions

Presentation

Prior to the senior presentation held last Thursday, Owain Picton presented Gwyn French with a photo album for his year in office as seniors’ captain in 2013. Owain also presented Martyn Price who was seniors’ captain in 2014 with his photo album. Owain went on to presented Gwyn Scale who was club captain in 2014 with a scrap book for his term in office.

Owain who was competition and handicap secretary for 16 years stated that these presentations will be the last that he will be carrying out as he has finally completed his duties with the club.

Ladies

ELEVEN ladies played last Tuesday in overcast and rather chilly conditions. The winner with 31 points was Cheryl Eva. Eileen Jenkins was runner-up with 29pts beating Jackie Skelhorn and Karen Pullen (also 29pts) on the back nine. There was one twos winner, Liz Durward on 16th hole.

Last Sunday, the ladies played in their Texas Scramble season warm up game with a chilly wind felt by everyone. The scores were very close indeed, but the overall winners Karen Lewis, Barbara Phillips and Liz Durward came home with a nett 63, closely followed by runners-up Maeve McGee, Lucy French and Jan Goodridge with a nett 64.

The ladies are reminded that the Webber, Tulley and Centenary Cup matches are now up on the boards with the draw due to take place on Sunday, March 1 after their next game.

Gents

The Winter League final positions were decided on Saturday. It was very close with all divisions going down to the last games. The teams to play in the quarter finals are:

R Eva & C Eva v S Dyson & G French

All remaining teams will play in the Plate Competition, which is a four ball better ball, over three weeks.

On the third week (March 7), it will be finals day of the Winter League. The four losing quarter finalists will be in the second round of the plate competition and will be given an average score from the rest of the players.

Coaching

Saturday afternoon was the first of four coaching sessions for Junior Golf Club Members with Club Professional Mathew Hearne. There were nearly 20 participants, and with the weather being fine most of the juniors went and had a few holes after as well.
