Division Three West B:

Milford Haven 65

Pembroke Dock Harlequins 0

A HAT trick from centre Jimmy Thomas was amongst the highlights of Milford Haven’s twelfth league win in a row – this time at the expense of Pembroke Dock Quins at The Obs.

With Fishguard also enjoying a big win over Llangwm, the Mariners chances of finishing the season on top appear to be dwindling, but Mark Wonnacott’s men will harbour high hopes of adding further wins in their last three fixtures.

On Saturday, the home side actually took time to get going as the Quins opted for uncontested scrums, and then were further disrupted when outside half Leigh Broome left the field with an elbow injury.

But the expected try glut duly came as alongside Thomas’ hat trick, there were braces for winger Sam Stalbow, replacement centre Dean Matthews, and outstanding flanker David Sweeny – adjudged by team manager James Hall as the home side’s man of the match.

Second row Tom Manning and No 8 James Passmore also got on the scoresheet, and centre Grant Rodgers added six conversions.

The result capped off a bad week for the Quins, after it was confirmed they had been deducted four points by the WRU for not fulfilling a fixture earlier in the season -and they now lie rock bottom of the table with five points to their name.

“We were a bit out of sorts against Neyland but a lot better today,” Wonnacott told Mercury Sport after the game.

“We made a few changes to keep things fresh, and we scored some good tries.

“A number of players, backs and forwards, really performed well – we have a few weeks off now but I’m really looking forward to Laugharne away on March 28.”
