Situated in the idyllic village of Lydstep, the South Pembrokeshire Point to Point is well known for attracting a fantastic crowd on Easter Monday, and weather permitting, this year should be no exception.

This will be the first Point to Point for the West Wales Area, and with a Cross Country race before at 12, 85 entries and pony racing afterwards, spectators should be in for a treat.

Home grown jockey John Mathias is sure to get on the score card. He has been in cracking form this season and recently chalked-up his 150th winner between the flags, and after walking away with a hat-rick of winners last year, he’s one you can rely on when it comes to riding this slightly undulating course. Jodie Hughes was another who did well here last season, riding a double after coming back from a horrible injury to her wrist. She will be hoping to take the Members Race again, this time with Seondeok.

The Men’s Open looks a hotly contested race, with a chance of Rosie’s Peacock meeting Findlay’s Find again. The two have a great rivalry, but it won’t be straight forward for either of them, with ex Rebecca Curtis inmate Anger Management entered, as well as Mumbles Pier and Sir Du Bearn, who use to be with Peter Bowen.

There are 18 entered in the Ladies Open, where Findlay’s Find and Sir Su Bearn doubles up. Last year’s winner Pathian Prince will be hoping to make it a success two years running. They may be joined by prolific Welsh pointer Chestnut Annie, Kisha King and Teenage Kicks.

The going is currently good, good to soft in places, with rain and wind forecast for the coming few days, with a dry weekend hopefully on the card.

It will cost you £10 for car and driver, and £5 per head to get in. Also, make sure you allow extra time for Bank Holiday traffic. There will be two entrance gates in operation. Approaching from the West, the Pembroke direction, can be less congested.
