THERE is still much confusion surrounding the future of this season’s Senior Cup despite a final decision being seemingly made by the Pembrokeshire Football League Association.

The authority met last Wednesday night, and decided Hakin United would be expelled from the competition following their abandoned first round tie with Merlins Bridge back in October 2014.

As a result, e-mails were sent to Hakin, Merlins Bridge, and Neyland AFC to inform them of the decision – with the latter two teams told to prepare for their second round tie that will take place tonight (Tuesday), with a 6pm kick off at the Athletic Club.

Telegraph Sport was told that following the meeting, an official statement would be released outlining the reasons behind the decision – but as of yet, there has been no public explanation.

However, the authority are now expected to release clarification at a later date.

Telegraph Sport also understands the expulsion of the Vikings partly relates to Rule 19 (h) in the association’s handbook which states:

‘Any club (s) found guilty of causing a match to be abandoned will be deemed to have lost that match and that team or both teams will be automatically barred from the Senior Cup (s) competition for that season. All players named on the teamsheet including named substitutes will, for the guilty team, also be barred for that season in the cup competitions only.’

This Saturday, April 18 is now the provisional date for the Senior Cup quarter final, between Haverfordwest Cricket Club and Neyland or Merlins Bridge, but no dates have been confirmed as yet for the semi finals or final.

Furthermore, it appears there may be further disciplinary action to come, with representatives of both Hakin and Merlins Bridge set to appear in front of the West Wales Football Association tomorrow (Wednesday).

Therefore, there could yet be a situation where the decision of the Pembrokeshire Football League is reversed or overruled.

However, the association’s assistant secretary, Ceri Richards, told Telegraph Sport he was unable to confirm whether or not that hearing was taking place.

A full report of tonight's cup tie will appear on www.westerntelegraph.co.uk/sport.
