Gents

LAST Saturday, 84 players took part in the J. D. Clarke & S. Lewis Cup Competitions on a sunny but chilly day. The cups are qualifiers for the Welsh Team Handicap Championship competitions.

The team for the Welsh Team Championship is P. Kingston, I. McKenzie, S. Conway, C. Davidson, Reserves: C. Williams and C. Brown.

Twos winners were D. Forrest, I. McKenzie x 2, C. Eva, P. Kingston, L. Brown, R. Devonald, S. Dyson and O. West.

In his speech the Club Captain welcomed back Mr Tim Phillips who has been working away for two years, also he congratulated the Junior Monthly Medal winner Jay Power who came in with a nett 68 playing off the white tees in very difficult conditions.

The Rabbits got off to an impressive start to the season with a 5-2 win over South Pembs in Division 1. Next week they play away to Carmarthen.

Next week is the April Monthly Medal sponsored by Mr Brian Summons. Friday May 1 is the “Old Friends Day”, organised by Mr Mike Edds, in recognition of Mr Peter Wright, who was a long standing member, and was also Club Captain and President of the Club. Proceeds are in aid of a charity, please see notice board in entrance to the main clubhouse, teams of 4.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday, 13 ladies played in the weekly roll up; the winner this week was Pauline Summons and the runner up was Veronica John. Mary Christopher won the twos competition.

On Sunday, was the Jamieson Cup/Rhian Pearn competition, 15 ladies took part and the winner with an excellent nett 71 was Barbara Phillips and the runner up was Margaret Hicks with a nett 75. Barbara's round saw her handicap being dropped to an impressive15 and Liz Durward also having an excellent round dropped her handicap down a point too. Keri Broome was the only twos competition winner.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, the senior section played their first friendly home match of the season against the seniors’ team from Trefloyne Golf Club.

With the course in excellent condition; there were ten matches played with the final score being a first win of the season for the Milford team by six matches to four.

Congratulations to Ken Davies who having to play on his own had the biggest win of the day winning by six and four after being seven holes up after the first seven; the other winners for the Milford team were Owain Picton and Ian Fairburn; Gwyn Scale and Brian Morgans; Chris Harding and David Christopher; John Clark and Dick Wooding snr who was three down with four holes to play winning the last four holes to win one up (not bad as John Clark’s partner Dick Wooding snr is 88 years young). Seniors Captain and his partner Chris Naylor halved their match along with Billy Hier and Roy John. Other seniors who took played were Tony Davey and Dick Wooding jnr; Richard Brock and Brian Keen; Mike Durward and Mike Ballentine.

Last Wednesday, the seniors A team travelled to Builth Wells Golf Club to play in the first round of the South Wales seniors Classic cup, the result after all very close games was a win for the home team by the odd match in three. Andrew Smith and Rolly Council who went out first gave the club a great start by winning their game one up after being two down with three to play. In the other two matches Russell James and Gwyn Scale narrowly lost on the last hole to lose one down; with the last pair consisting of seniors Captain Brian Mitchell and Dick Wooding jnr lost their match three and two. The A team will now go in to the hat for the first round of the bowl which is for all losing teams in the first round of the cup round of the cup.

Last Tuesday, the seniors held their Thursday stableford roll up because of their home match being played on the Thursday; with the course in excellent condition with the greens extremely fast especially over the far side of the course added to a little wind which made scoring very difficult for the very large entry of 44 players which is the largest turnout so far this season.

The winner with 40 points was Martyn Price with Gerald Slate two points back on 38.

The twos kitty was shared by Richard Brock; Steve Phillips on Hole 6 “Badgers”; David Britton and Bryn Gee and Hole 8 “The Doc’s”; Ivor Mckenzie Hole 10 “Boundary” with Paul Eva and Howard Webber hitting theirs on Hole 16 “The Gales”.

The only two players for handicap changes were Martyn Price from 22 to 20 and Gerald Slate from 16 down to 15.

The presentation was carried out by seniors captain Brian Mitchell.

Next Thursday 30, Milford seniors take on the Neyland golf society in their annual match for the Horizon Cup with Neyland hoping to retain the cup after winning it in 2014 for the first time.

There is one remaining Tuesday senior’s competition for April on the 28th first draw at 11.30 am after the ladies have vacated the first tee.

The Tuesdays stableford roll up will be held on 21st teeing off after the ladies at 11.15 am.

Senior members please note that the draw for the individual and pairs knockout competitions has been posted on the noticeboard; the same rules apply this year as before that ALL Matches must be played by the dates stated on the sheets or all players concerned will risk disqualification.

Tigers

THIS Sunday, Milford Haven Golf Club played their first game of the season defending their championship at home against Glynhir A.

After some closely fought matches Milford Haven came through to win 7-2. Well done to the Tigers winning against a very strong Glynhir team.

The Tigers next game is this Sunday, away to South Pembs.

Juniors

THE Lloyds Motors Cup was won by Alex Starling played on Saturday, April 11.

On Saturday, April 18 the Monthly Medal was sponsored by Port Engineering and attracted an excellent turnout and good golf in blustery conditions. Thomas Wood and Josh Lewis returned to form with nett scores of 70 and 69 to come second and third, but they could not catch Jay Power who won with a 68 nett, carrying on his fine form from the Cardigan Open last week.

New to Golf and Mini Course Golf kicked off for 2015, with a promising bunch of new starters who look to have quickly got to grips with the six hole course. The six hole comp showed how well last year's new golfers have progressed as the scoring was excellent, Liam Williams coming second with 28 shots but being narrowly pipped by Ryan Beavis on 27 shots.
