Whitland (220 for 8) beat Haverfordwest (208 all out) by 12 runs

Dan James was the toast of his Whitland colleagues as the young fast bowler grabbed three wickets in one late over against Haverfordwest to help take away The Town’s unbeaten record and dramatically reduced their lead at the top of the table.

In a high scoring tussle, Danny Potter’s boys seemed poised for a win as they stood on 204 for 7 with three overs left but then James, who had taken a bit of ‘stick’ in his earlier overs, struck three times in quick succession so when he had Clive Tucker adjudged lbw it was curtains for the visitors.

Leading the way for Whitland after Paul Davies had chipped in with an early 21 were Iestyn Scourfield (62, including 11 boundaries) and Scott Newton, whose excellent unbeaten 71 contained 10 fours and a six).

Adam James (5 for 60) was the principal Town wicket-taker as Clive Tucker (2 for 38) and Simon Holliday (1 for 44) also claimed wickets.

After tea, Haverfordwest had solid knocks from Simon Holliday (51), Ben Field (26), Danny Potter (39, including five fours and two sixes), Adam James (three big sixes in 23) and Josh Hicks (18) but all got out at key times before that late James onslaught gave the Borderers victory, with Mark Lee (1 for 41), Wayne Howells (2 for 27) and Greg Sleep (2 for 41) their other successful bowlers.
