Gents

LAST Saturday, there were two competitions, the 0-14 under 50 Shield and the Vets Trophy. It was a sunny but breezy day with 83 golfers taking part. Once again the course was in excellent condition. The under 50s Shield was won by R. Hull with 39pts.

The Vets Trophy was won by long serving Club Member D. Wells. Well done to Don as he never misses a Saturday match with his playing partners Bob Williams and Jacky Jenkins.

In his speech, the Captain spoke about the Juniors Section and how well it’s being supported due to the hard work of Simon Nicholas in developing the Junior Mini Course. He also thanked the greens staff for the excellent condition of the course and the catering staff for all their hard work at the BBQ on Friday night.

The club is looking for people to help repair divots next Tuesday at 6.30pm on the fairways, please turn up at the Club if you can help.

Friday, June 19 there is a Texas Scramble, teams of three, book online.

Friday, July 3 is the Captain’s Charity Day in aid of The Liver Foundation and Prostate Cancer UK, contact Gwyn the Captain for time starts (teams of four, best three scores on each hole).

The Milford Rabbits entertained Aberystwyth last Saturday and won 5 games to 1. The next Rabbits match is home to Haverfordwest on Sunday, July 12.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, the seniors played Cardigan Golf Club in their first friendly match for a couple of seasons; with the course in excellent condition with the greens true and quick for the players; Cardigan only had six pairs with the result going to the home team by six matches to none.

The Milford winning team was as follows: Brian Mitchell and Mike Durward, Owain Picton and Billy Hier, Tony Davey and David Christopher, Richard Brock and Mike Ballentine, Brian Keen and Dick Wooding snr, Chris Naylor and Gerald Charles.

Milford’s next match is today (Thursday 11) at Glynn Abbey Golf Club.

As Cardigan had only six pairs seventeen of the Milford Haven seniors had a stableford roll up prior to match with the top three players all with 39 points.

Last Tuesday, 21 seniors played a stableford competition on a course which was in excellent condition with lush fairways and quick greens.

On a dry sunny day with wind gusting on times of over 45 miles per hour; the seniors did very well in finishing their rounds.

The winner with 38 points was Bert Jones and for his excellent round in the conditions. Bert was dropped a shot and will now play off 18.

As it was a counting competition players who did not play to their handicap received .1 back with only Bert Jones handicap changing back from 19 to 18.

Presentation was carried out by seniors’ captain Brian Mitchell.

If any senior wishes to play in the members and guests competition and has not a guest player to play with, but their name is on the list on the seniors’ notice board the committee will try and find them a playing partner.

Thursday 25 - J & B Putter Medal competition Colin Reynolds points tee off 10.30am.

Tuesday 30 - Priskilly Forest Golf Club (home) tee off 11am.

The first round of the individual and pairs knockout competitions has been completed with the players in one match having been disqualified for not playing before the dead line date of May 31. All second round matches must be completed by Sunday, June 28.

Ladies

ONLY six ladies took part in the latest competition that was disrupted by rain. It was very windy, but reasonably warm in the sun, but of course it did make the golf difficult.

Finishing first was Liz Durward with 29pts just beating Sylvia Rees (29pts) on the back nine. Liz scored struck the only two.

Junior Captain's Day

Junior Captain Josh Lewis entertained 45 competitors at his Captain's Day. A barbeque was put on by the Club and everyone had a pleasant day.

Results

Guest nearest the pin won by Chris Day and Junior nearest the pin won by Ben Fawcett. Peter Taylor was runner-up in the Guests competition and the winner was Daniel Arnop-Rees.

Two events were run over the mini course, with the seven hole competition won by Olly Vaughan- Harries who pipped brother Sammy by a shot. The six hole competition saw a three way tie for third between Lucas Aldred, Maisie Lloyd and Maisie Millichip. Osian Millichip shot a fantastic 26 which would have won on most other weeks, but a superb 21 shot score by Liam Williams was unbeatable on the day and he won the trophy.

A field of 20 contested the Junior 18 hole event and Ben Fairbairn picked up 4th place prize. The first three were then only separated on count-back as all finished on 41 points. Jack Wilson and Jay Power occupied third and runner-up spots, but a superb gross 69 off the whites by Brandon Cooper took the trophy and rounded off a great day - congratulations to Josh for all his hard work!

A Girls Golf Gig was held in Newport on Sunday and three Milford Members attended - Hollie Jenkins, Catrin Edwards and Maisie Millichip, with great feedback coming from the coaches. There is a Girls’ Gig at Milford at 1pm this Sunday.
