David Round wasted little time in registering a momentous a win at the Macto Championships in Milton Keynes on Saturday night as he beat the highly rated Alex Montagnani.

The co-main event contest lasted just 54 seconds, as Round executed a leg lock which appeared to severely injure Montagnani’s hamstring, and then pressured him against the cage with a shoulder lock and a series of strikes before the referee stepped in to award the former Milford man the contest.

And in an amazing irony, the fight took place seven years to the day that the 28-year-old Round debuted in MMA, with a fight he won in the exact same time, 54 seconds.

This was the 16th MMA win of his career, 15 of which have now come inside the first round, and he has already expressed his desire to remain with the Macto organisation after their show at the MK Arena earned rave reviews.

“My next fight will be on Macto 2 on September 5, at the same venue with the opponent to be confirmed,” he said.

“I have to thank Ross Laurence, Wad Alameddine, Chris Emmanuel, Bradley Burnell and James Lutman for the show these guys are putting together for MMA.”

“Macto is the best and most professionally ran and production promotion I have ever fought for.”

And Round, who entered the arena with a number of emblems on his walk-in banner, including that of the Milford Mercury newspaper, again took time to thank those who had supported him.

“I’m grateful to my partner Leah and everyone else who travelled to support me,” he said.

“Modesto Galdo at Granicol has backed me from my very first fight, and thanks also to my other sponsors JY Nutrition, L Greggain Builders and Contractors, Grip Sports, Good Cleaning Service, Impact LPA and Steve Evans at Studio 9 Custom Tattoo, Johnston.”

Round also expressed gratitude to manager Chris Clarke, of the Fight Agency, and his training partners in the build up to Macto.
