Eddie Merry semi final:

Fishguard Sports 2
Merlins Bridge 3
(after extra time)

AN extra time goal from Nathan Greene edged Merlins Bridge into the final of this season’s Eddie Merry Cup as they overcame a brave effort from hosts Fishguard last night.

Owain Duggan’s side led 2-1 late in normal time, before a header from Bridge substitute Matthew D’Ivry forced an additional 30 minutes - and with the game seemingly heading for penalties, Greene struck from close range to book his side a place in Friday’s final.

It was the striker who had given his side an early lead, tapping in a rebound after Fishguard keeper Dave Williams had saved his first effort.

Dai Davies went close to a second for Bridge but then the home side, playing with the slope and wind behind them in the first half, came into the contest.

Niall Kinsella curled a long range free kick just over before Ryan Howells made it 1-1, smashing an angled shot home off the underside of the bar.

And after the break, an upset seemed on the cards when new signing Lewis Banks headed past Bridge keeper Chris Thomas to give his side a shock lead.

But in the last minute of normal time, D’Ivry planted a header home to force extra time.

And last season’s Division One runners up sealed the win late on, when Greene made no mistake following a scramble in the area.

Tonight, Goodwick United take on Cardigan Town in the second semi final for a place in Friday’s finale (6.15pm kick off at St Mary’s Field).
