Joe Lennon Memorial Cup final:

Hakin United 9-0 Milford United

Hakin's firm grip on the Joe Lennon Cup continued as they hammered Milford United to claim the trophy for the fourth successive year.

The Vikings had already beaten Hubberston 15-1 in their semi final last week, and this latest success signalled a real statement of intent ahead of the defence of their Division One crown.

In front of a large crowd at The Obs, strikers Nicky Woodrow and Ben Steele ran amok, scoring seven times between them to add to the 12 goals they shared the previous Friday.

The home side had two clear chances within the first three minutes as both Woodrow and Bevan headed wide from Steele crosses - but they soon took the lead when a rash challenge from Scott Griffiths on Woodrow left referee Gareth Elliott with little option but to point to the spot.

The striker picked himself up and sent Milford keeper Andrew Faibairn the wrong way.

Steele then had a half volley well saved by the stopper before Hakin doubled their lead - as Ben Aldred saw his first time shot tipped onto the post by Fairbairn, and Woodrow tapped in the rebound.

The Robins had their first effort on goal when a Ryan Wilson free kick was punched away by Hakin keeper James Manson - but after 23 minutes, it was 3-0 as Woodrow completed his hat trick with a header from another Steele cross.

And three minutes later he had his fourth, as he got on the end of Aldred's lofted pass and expertly flicked the ball past the onrushing Fairbairn.

Hakin midfielder Matthew Broome then fired narrowly over before Woodrow went from scorer to provider, crossing for Steele to head home.

Gary Dawes' side continued to dominate after the break, as Nathan Banner had a header saved from a James Stanmore free kick, before at the other end, Chris Thompson could only shoot tamely at Manson following good work by the impressive Liam Fawcett.

Things got worse for Milford when Griffiths was shown a straight red card for a two footed lunge on Steele - and then on 57 minutes, Woodrow bagged a fifth when he turned in the area and drove a low shot under Fairbairn.

The keeper was then sharply off his line to deny Broome, before Steele grabbed his second when he showed quick feet before hammering home from six yards.

Hakin's new signing missed two more good chances to bag his treble, but the goals kept coming as Stanmore's cross was diverted into his own net by Milford substitute Tommy Davies.

And the scoring was completed late on as midfielder Steve Mathias, who had been introduced after the break, fired in a 20 yard shot that deflected into the top corner off the luckless Davies.

There was still time for Thompson to curl a free kick over for Milford, but the visitors ended up convincingly beaten by a rampant Hakin display.

Afterwards, tournament organiser Phil Marchant thanked the home club for hosting the event, and all the managers, players, and officials who participated in the tournament.

He also thanked Joe's son, Joff, for allowing the local clubs to continue to honour a much loved figure in Pembrokeshire football - before presenting the trophy to winning skipper Woodrow.

And the Vikings will now turn their attention to next Wednesday night, and their Jubilee Cup clash with Goodwick at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.
