LAST Saturday, the club held the Tom Stockwood Cup. Play started at 8am when the conditions were excellent. It was a lovely sunny, windless morning, the sun shone all day and it was very hot. With 75 golfers taking part, the winner was Howard Webber with 41pts.

Seniors

THE Seniors held a very successful stableford open day where 79 players took on miserable day weather wise with wind and a few very heavy showers of rain last Tuesday.

There were some good scores returned despite the weather with the top score in the 55-69 category by seniors’ captain Brian Mitchell 42 points; and in the age category of 70’s plus by Jack Jenkins with 41 points (43 points off his full handicap as both categories had a maximum handicap of 24).

Brian also won the De-Valca Shield for the best overhaul score on the day of both categories.

The presentation was carried out by seniors’ Captain Brian Mitchell assisted by seniors’ treasurer David Christopher.

Thursday seniors’ weekly competition was switched to the Friday. The stableford competition was also a qualifier for points for the Colin Reynolds Salvers.

The winner was Steve Phillips with an excellent 45 points; with Mike Durward in runners- up spot; with seniors captain Brian Mitchell who should have been in third place but was disqualified for signing for the wrong score on the last hole; all three players handicap was reduced by two shots each.

As it was a counting competition players who did not play to their handicap received .1 back. Besides Steve 16 to 14; Mike 19 to 17 and Brian14 to12 reduction in handicap; the following players had an increase in theirs; Richard Brock from 14 to 15; Billy Hier 19 to 20; Gwyn Scale 11 to 12.

Ladies

THE Ladies held their annual Open Day last Thursday, with a good turnout of players from all over the county and beyond. The weather was kind with a decent spell of warm, dry weather for most of the day.

The competition format was teams of three with the best two Stableford scores. In third position were Ann Lloyd, Eileen Ticehurst and Andrea Dudden from Haverfordwest Golf Club with 84 points. The runners up were Karen Lewis, Ruth Morgan and Maeve McGee from Milford Haven Golf Club with 85 points. The winners with an excellent 89 points were Trevane Keohane, Georgina Ormond and Maura Gunning from Tenby Golf Club all winning some lovely new golf clothes.

The Esso Cup for the Best Milford Lady was presented by the Lady President Barbara Phillips to Karen Lewis who scored 39 points.

There were seven twos recorded by Eileen Jenkins, Mary Lewis, Linda Tordoff-Evans, Georgina Ormond, Barbara Phillips (Milford), Eileen Ticehurst and Wendy Summons.

Nearest the Pin was won by Ruth James from Carmarthen GC and the Longest Drive by Anita Thomas from Haverfordwest GC, both presented with engraved glasses kindly sponsored by K & R Rees Resources.

The ladies enjoyed a meal in the Greens Restaurant after their game and in the evening the Lady President Barbara Phillips thanked everyone for a lovely day before handing over to Lady Captain Karen Lewis who held the presentation. Karen also thanked all the ladies for supporting the club and also individual thanks were given for helpers on the day.
