Gents

THE Rabbits Captain’s Day was held last Saturday, where 87 golfers enjoyed sunshine, and once again the course was in excellent condition thanks to Kevin and his greens staff.

There were five different categories: Gents 0-15, 16-28, Rabbits, Ladies and Juniors. Also there were prizes for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive for the Gents and Ladies.

Nearest the Pin for the Ladies was won by Enid De Wolf and the Longest Drive was won by Barbara Phillips.

Nearest the Pin for the Gents was won by Mike Jones and the Longest Drive was won by Niall Day.

Twos winners were M. Jones, K. Bowen, N. Jones, M. Davies, S. George, K. Power, W. Tuson, R. Settersfield, M. Boulton, D. Cleevely, J. Lonergan, and S. Dyson x2.

Rabbits Captain Wayne Cooper thanked everybody and wished Chris Harding all the best as Rabbits Captain next year. The Rabbits finish their season this weekend with an away trip to Aberystwyth.

Seniors

THE senior section held a stableford competition last Thursday, where 35 players took part on a dry day with the course once again in excellent condition; the competition was also a qualifier for the Colin Reynolds Salvers.

The winner was Gwyn Scale with 41 points, winning by a four clear points from runner up Trevor Dean with 37 points

Last year’s winner of the Colin Reynolds Slavers Gwyn Scale after picking up 6 points in the competition goes to the top of the leader board with 16 points.

Senior Knockout Cups

In the knockout cups the Esso Val French cup for individuals have reached the semi-finals stage; in the quarter finals;

Tony Davey beat Chris Harding; Alan Summons beat Geoff Davies;

Ivor McKenzie beat Russell James; Ian Fairburn beat Gwyn French.

Matches must be played by Sunday, September 13

Pair’s knockout Phil Davies and Maurice Coe have reached the final after beating Rolly Council and Martyn Price three and two.

In the other semi-final Chris Oliver and Steve Phillips will be playing Andrew Smith and Owain Picton; both finals must be played by the end of September.

Ladies

THE ladies played in the G.U.W Rookery Nook competition held on Sunday. The weather was calm and pleasant although the ground was damp making it a tough round. The winner with a nett 72 was Cheryl Eva and the runner up with a nett 76 was Karen Lewis. There were no twos recorded so the money rolls over.

The ladies are reminded that the next committee meeting will be held on Monday, September 7 at 6.30pm at the golf club.

The Finals Day will be held next Sunday, Cheryl Eva will be playing in the Centenary Match with Lucy French, against Pauline Summons and Eileen Davies, they hope to play at 1pm. Cheryl is also in the Webber Cup Final against Veronica and Tulley Cup final against Lucy, but they'll have to be played on separate days.
