HE prides himself on being an MMA fighter who will face ‘anyone at anytime’ - and David ‘one more’ Round certainly backed up that persona last weekend with a remarkable win over Sean Carter on Saturday night.

By his own admission, the 29-year-old was at home drinking chocolate milk with his daughter Lola on Thursday morning, when his manager from the Fight Agency, Chris Clarke, messaged him.

“Chris said it was a shame I wasn’t fit to fight as a bout on a show in Colchester was available for Saturday night,” said the 29-year-old.

“I replied saying I’m always fit to fight. So he gave me the details and I went to get my haircut.”

For the record, a ‘haircut’ always forms part of Round’s pre-fight preparation.

The weight limit for the contest on the BCMMA 14 show was 175lbs, so in the proceeding 24 hours Round had a hot bath, visited a sauna, and went for a long run in an attempt to shed the 10lbs he needed to pass the weigh in.

And sure enough, he drove up to Colchester on Friday and made the required weight.

“I was a massive underdog as Carter is well reknowned and was in front of his own crowd,” admitted Round.

“He’s a submission specialist so was looking to get me in a hold quickly.”

But the Milford man had other ideas, and after two and a half minutes, caught Carter with a flurry of elbows before the referee stepped in.

The result was not popular with the crowd, with Round admitting he revelled in the chorus of boos - with a devastated Carter, who was originally due to fight Aldric Cassata before he withdrew on Thursday, even trying to contest the decision.

But the outcome was lauded by many MMA fans and fellow fighters - with Round earning widespread praise for his willingness to take the contest at short notice.

Prior to Thursday, Round was preparing for his boxing bout in Bridgwater with Scott Clist on March 5. That fight is still scheduled to go ahead.

He is also still set for an MMA bout in Sweden with Sadibo Sy on April 9.
