Manager Wayne Jones has made a shock announcement that he has decided to leave Haverfordwest County and has taken the reins over at Welsh Premier outfit Aberystwyth Town.

Jones has been manager with the Bluebirds for the past five seasons, he enjoyed guiding the Bluebirds to promotion from Welsh League Division One to the Welsh Premier last season.

However, the Bluebirds finished bottom of the Welsh Premier this season and were relegated.

Telegraph Sport can reveal that Jones has handed in his resignation and will be joining the mid Wales outfit for the start of the next Welsh Premier campaign.

Haverfordwest County FC website stated: “Today Wayne Jones has resigned from his post as manager of the club to take up a managerial role at Aberystwyth Town.

“The Bluebirds are disappointed to lose a manager of Wayne's stature but recognise that the opportunity to continue to broaden his experience of managing in the Welsh Premier League was too good for him to turn down.

“All at Haverfordwest County would like to place on record their thanks to Wayne for his sterling efforts at the club and wish him well in his new role. Work to put a successor in place is already under way and we will communicate further once an appointment has been made.”

Speaking to Telegraph Sport about joining Aberystwyth Town Jones said: “It was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. And it will be a fresh challenge for me.

“I’ve had five enjoyable seasons in charge of the team at the Bridge Meadow.

“I think it’s time for change and I have decided to move onto pastures new.

“I’m looking forward to going to Park Avenue and having another crack in the Welsh Premier. I’d like to wish everyone connected with Haverfordwest County all the very best for the future.”
