John Bailey Memorial Tournament:

Goodwick United 0

Fishguard Sports 2

Fishguard Sports stunned last season’s treble winners Goodwick United, grabbing two second half goals without reply and securing a thoroughly deserved victory at Phoenix Park.

Goals by Jamie Vaughan and Jordan White secured the silverware for close neighbours Sports in this annual pre-season friendly tournament, played as mark of respect to late Goodwick United player John Bailey.

Earlier in the week, Fishguard Sports defeated Prendergast Villa 1-0, and Goodwick United won 5-0 against Clarbeston Road, setting up a derby final.

Goodwick United boss Nigel Delaney has lost from last season’s history making squad the likes of Chris O’Sullivan, James Gwilt, Rhys Dalling, who have signed for Haverfordwest County, and also Jonny Horgan was missing due to a broken leg.

However, this is was not taking anything away from The Sports, who on the night thoroughly deserved their victory, not giving their illustrious neighbours any time on the ball.

Man of the match Jordan White was in brilliant form for the Sports, setting up the first goal for Jamie Vaughan in the 65th minute, then in the 75th minute he scored following a goalmouth scramble.

The closest that Goodwick United came to scoring was when captain Kieran O’Brien struck a fierce shot that that cannoned off the woodwork in the first period, besides that effort Sports keeper David Pepper had a relatively quiet evening.

The Division Two outfit stayed strong for the remainder of the game, and gained a fantastic win over their Division One rivals, a result that will surely give them a huge boost before the start of the official league season gets underway in a couple of weeks’ time
