A HAVERFORDWEST man put in a strong showing, literally, with a third placed finish at the Wales Strongest Dragon event in Bridgend event last month.

Rory Brown, 30, was competing for the first time, having only started training in his garage a few years ago.

Rory, who lives at Williamston Farm with wife Alex and their two-year-old son, built his own training equipment with the help of a friend - utilising things like tractors, wheels, and logs.

But he only decided to enter the competition in Bridgend after seeing an advertisement on Facebook eight weeks beforehand, causing him to promptly alter his training plans significantly.

Competing in the Novice Open Group class, he tackled 105kg axle cleans; 260kg farmers walk; 60kg monster dumbells; 200kg deadlift.

The event was organised by the winner of Wales Strongest Man 2016, Mark Jeanes, who said Rory’s achievement in his debut event was remarkable.
