FORMER Pembrokeshire rugby player Dominic Day will return to the UK for the 2017/18 season after agreeing a deal to join Aviva Premiership team Saracens.

The 31-year-old second row, who attended Pembroke Secondary School and as well as his county side, and also represented Pembroke RFC at junior and youth level, will join on a two-year deal from Australian Super Rugby side Melbourne Rebels.

Day, who played for the Scarlets from 2006 to 2012 before stints at Bath, Japanese side Toyota Verblitz, and most recently the Australian Super Rugby side, the Melbourne Rebels.

In August 2015, he won his first of three Welsh caps in a World Cup warm up game against Ireland, and was then included in Warren Gatland's squad for the tournament where he played in Wales' opening game at the Principality Stadium against Uruguay.

In a released statement, Day said: “I’m very much looking forward to joining Saracens next season.

"They’ve set the standard across Europe in recent years and when you look at the playing talent already at the club, along with the coaching set up, it’s a very exciting prospect to be a part of.

"The Aviva Premiership is a great competition and I know I’m joining a very motivated and ambitious club which is very important to me. I’ve gained huge experience from my time in Japan and Super Rugby and I’m returning a better player to hopefully help contribute to the continuing success of Saracens.”
