Chloe Hood, James Hart and Louis Thomas all perform well for the Welsh Weightlifting team at the Junior Battle event in Austria

The three Strength Academy Wales (SAW) members joined a team of 10 weightlifters from Wales travelled to the International event to compete against countries from all over Europe.

Chloe competed on Friday and although exams hampered her training preparation, she managed six out six successful lifts.

Chloe appeared extremely focused throughout the warm-up and then the duration of the competition.

She made a successful snatch of 63kg, which looked easy. She then moved onto the clean and jerk to lift 78kg. This placed the Milford Haven pupil in first place and secured her the Gold medal.

On the second day the tournament Louis and James competed. James,an ex-pupil from Ysgol St Davids who has since gained an apprenticeship at Valero, made a successful first snatch of 90kg, although just missed the following two lifts of 93kg.

This placed James in a difficult position as he needed a heavy clean and jerk to place well in the overall standings.

James made three successful lifts at the clean and jerk, gaining an 8kg gain on his competition personal best.

He showed great determination to perform 118kg on his last lift, which also gave him the bronze medal.

Louis, an ex-pupil of Sir Thomas Picton School currently studying at Pembrokeshire College, had made good progress in the build up to the event and had goals to achieve an 85kg snatch and 105kg clean and jerk.

Louis performed with excellent focus to make six out of six successful lifts and had personal bests in both snatch and clean and jerk, with lifts of 87kg and 108kg respectfully.

This secured him a silver medal.

“They have performed extremely well on the international stage and all three have so much potential”

With other members of SAW, the trio are now in training for the Under 20 British Championships.
