FORMER Sir Thomas Picton pupil David Omoregie now faces a nervous wait to see if he will run for Great Britain in the IAAF World Championships following the British Athletics team trials at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on the weekend.

Omoregie, 21, finished fifth in the final of the 110 metre hurdles in 13.93 seconds, someway down on his personal best of 13.24, and outside of the automatic qualifying time needed.

The race was won by English hurdler David King in 13.55 seconds.

But there is still hope for the reigning European Under 23 Gold medalist, who holds the fifth quickest time ever by a GB 110 metre hurdler - although he must now wait and see if he is awarded a discretionary GB team place for the games in London this summer.

Last year Omoregie, who represented the Pembrokeshire Harriers throughout his junior career and now bases his training in Cardiff, missed out on 2016 Rio Olympics selection after running the qualification standards too late.

The IAAF World Championships begin at the London Stadium (formerly Olympic Stadium) in Stratford on Friday, August 4, and run until Sunday, August 12.
