REIGNING World and National Champions Sam and Daisy Coleman stepped up their game at the second round of the UK Championship at the P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea - only to have their points taken away in agonising fashion.

They put on an impressive performance, winning three out of the four races in rough conditions on the Clyde - seemingly earning a nine point lead in the Championship in the process.

But the event wasn’t without its share of drama, with the tough conditions leading to several incidents where boats came together resulting in penalties being issued.

And it wasn’t until the Monday that the weekend was soured following a phone call to Daisy from the race officer, informing that he had disqualified the Coleman’s from the full weekend’s points in the Pertemps boat, along with the Arthur J Gallagher team, for not having sound insulating foam in the engine cowling.

This was despite the boat being deemed as fit to race by the organisers and the engine being allocated to them without it.

The team have said they are distraught over the situation and are pursuing formal appeal with the sport’s governing bodies, the RYA and the UIM.

The rough conditions had suited the siblings as they leaned on all their knowledge gathered in training to make sure the boat was trimmed to suit the sea and waves that differed from lap to lap.

Prior to the disqualification, the pair said  the conditions were a complete contrast to the calm waters last year, meaning there was more emphasis on the crew than the boat.

The final race of the weekend was Powerboat P1’s 500th race and the pair had said they were delighted to take the honours,. winning the special 500th trophy in the process.

“To be here winning this, the 500th P1 race, is an honour for us both, many great teams have stood on the top step in P1’s history.”

But then came the harsh news, and the team are now working to ensure the circumstances don’t distract their preparations heading into the penultimate round in home waters for the P1 Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea, Milford Haven, this Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16, in Milford Haven.

The racing is free to watch from the Rath, whilst the premium ticketed area on the marina promises uninterrupted viewing of the boat and jet-ski racing, high energy jet ski freestyle displays and flyboarders.
