The trophies keep coming for the Carmarthen Warriors this summer as a short trip across the Severn Bridge this weekend ended with more silverware.

Avon Rfc, near Bath, was the location on this occasion and a 16 team tournament featuring sides mainly from the west country and south Wales.

John Gould, well known on the 7s circuit for managing some of the Uk’s best competitions, had drawn the Warriors as top seeds in a group with Cardiff Mustangs, Frome, Combe Down and Smiths 7s.

Gould’s judgement was justified as the Warriors scythed through their opposition and into the quarter final without conceding a single point.

Aniers 7 were next to fall to a rampant Carmarthen onslaught, similarly failing to trouble the tryline of the west Wales side.

Some complacency crept in for the semi-final however as the Warriors found themselves 12-0 down at half time against the ND Allstars.

With their founder and Captain Arwel Davies forced into action for the day the Warriors rallied in the second spell to overturn the deficit and win by 19-12. Carmarthen Athletic’s Rhys Evans clinching the winning try to take his team into the final against an ever improving Toucans side.

Another evenly matched affair saw Amosa Nova’s incredible work rate paying dividends at the right time as the Warriors stayed in touch with their opponnents.

It was an incredible solo effort by Tenby’s Ashley Sutton sealed the tie as he touched down under the posts.

Skipper Davies surprised everyone to snatch the ball away from the celebrating Sutton to pop over the conversion and end the game 26-14.

"This has been a great opportunity to try out some new faces and its really paid off," said Davies afterwards.

"Winning here has proved how strong we’ve become this year, hopefully we can continue to build to the end of the season."

Next up for both the Warriors and the Ladies will be the Beach Rugby Wales event in Swansea on Saturday.

Both sides will be looking to improve on their Plate and Runner up prizes in 2016.
