Pembrokeshire College student James Tomlinson has won silver in the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.

The 17-year-old from Pembroke Dock, coached by Cardiff based Paul Jensen, threw 60.11 metres.

The gold medal went to Austria's Alan Bell, who threw 63.17 metres.

Telegraph Sport contacted James shortly after his achievement in the early hours of this morning (UK time), who told us: "I've got mixed emotions but in the best way possible.

"It's awesome that I've got the silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games - it's following in the footsteps of the likes of Jessica Ennis-Hill who won the same medal at these Championships when she was younger."

And despite admitting to slight disappointment that he didn't record a new personal best, James added: "Overall I'm over the moon with an international medal at such a big competition and I'm excited for what the future holds.

"It's great being a part of Team Wales too."

James, who represents the Pembrokeshire Harriers back home, now has one Under 18 competition left in Dublin, and added: "I just want to 'fling it', aim for a personal best, and have some fun."

Later today, another Pembrokeshire College student in Lleucu George is also aiming for a medal with the Wales 7s rugby side, who beat Fiji yesterdat afternoon to set up a bronze medal play-off match.
