The September meeting of the Pembrokeshire Football Referees Society was well attended by members, and was a very busy one.

At the start of the meeting Society President Danny Thomas presented the annual Margaret Davies Sportsmanship cup to Andrew Burgoyne from Milford Utd, who were the winners of the competition for the 2016/17 season.

Society secretary Dave Badger then advised that a total of six new referees had recently qualified, and certificates were presented to the new refs present, some of whom are already officiating in the Pembrokeshire League.

This was followed by a talk from guest speaker Tony Waldiels, the ex-football league referee, who entertained his audience with an overview of his refereeing career, which featured fixtures at Anfield, Old Trafford, Maine Road any many others. He was also delighted to officiate at matches including George Best, and the great Liverpool teams of the 1970's, and also the England 1966 World Cup winning team. This was followed by a question and answer session where Tony revealed his favourite ground to be Anfield, and the toughest competitor to referee was Billy Bremner of the great Leeds Utd team of that era. Tony was thanked for his time, and his impressive speech, and was presented with a society tie by Danny Thomas on behalf the Society.

The usual monthly business followed, and then a general discussion took place where early season experiences, and the new disciplinary procedures were shared and discussed, by the members.

The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 8, at Haverfordwest Cricket Club, at 7pm, with all referees, including non-society members very welcome to attend.
