Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division One previews and score predictions for Saturday, January 20th:

Angle v Merlins Bridge

This line is becoming quite repetitive - but again we have two teams looking to play for the first time in 2018.

And the fact both go into this on the back of a league win is irrelevant in terms of momentum - given those victories were back on December 16th.

But Bridge simply have to pick up where they left off before Christmas, and keep the pressure on leaders Goodwick. If they are at full strength, then the threat carried by the likes of Will Haworth, Adam Hawkins, and Nathan Greene will severely test the resolve of the home side.

Angle lie ninth and appear in little danger of going down - but all of their 17 points have come against sides outside the top four.

Ben Adams grabbed a hat trick against them when they beat Lamphey 4-1 last time out, and the home side will have to be every bit as clinical tomorrow to get a result against a Bridge team with a good defensive record thus far.

It won't be easy for either after so long without football, but The Wizards can ill afford a slip up and if they perform, they should get the job done.

Score prediction: Angle 0-3 Merlins Bridge

Carew v Hakin United

The Vikings have played twice since Christmas - but all has not gone to plan with a 0-0 home draw against West Dragons followed by a 3-1 FAW Trophy loss at Llangefni Town.

But they have little time to lick their wounds, and with a crammed fixture list seeming likely for April and May, can't afford to drop any further behind leader Goodwick.

Tomorrow they will be boosted by the return of key striker Nicky Woodrow, and will also hope to have Craig Nicholson back after his presence in midfield was missed in Llangefni.

But they face another difficult test at Carew, who will be desperate to play having had no game since beating Angle 5-0 on December 9th.

Sam Christopher had a hat trick that day, and the Hakin defence must be wary of him and the likes of his brother Jack and Scott Ferney, all of whom have regularly troubled opposition defences in this campaign.

But The Rooks have also been susceptible to conceding goals against teams at the top - and must tighten up whilst finding a way to shackle Ben Facwett, who has revelled for Hakin in recent weeks.

Both sides likes to attack - but Carew's recent inactivity and the return of Woodrow could give The Vikings the edge.

Score prediction: Carew 1-2 Hakin United

Herbrandston v Goodwick United

It was heartbreaking for The Phoenix Boys last Saturday, conceding a 120th minute extra time equaliser before losing to Penydarren on penalties in the FAW Trophy.

But their performance exceeded expectations, and Wayne O'Sullivan is too experienced to allow his side to go to Herbie still deflated.

The visitors will still be missing top scorer Jordan Griffiths - but the hosts will have to somehow get hold of the Goodwick midfield to have any chance, with Chris O'Sullivan and Kieran O'Brien again prominent last week, while Jonny Horgan also returned from injury.

Relegation threatened Herbie's last game was January 6th, where Scott Reid gave them a lifeline with four goals in their 5-4 win over West Dragons.

They are unlikely to score five again tomorrow - but Reid's finishing will again have to be spot on if he gets chances against in-form Goodwick keeper James Gwilt.

Oliver West's men will also need experienced players like Ali Ouzman and Mark Jones to perform, and they have to go in with a 'nothing to lose' mentality as they look to close the eight point gap between them and safety.

However, I can see Goodwick's unbeaten league run continuing with room to spare.

Score prediction: Herbrandston 1-4 Goodwick United

Lamphey v Clarbeston Road

These two sides met on December 9th - and The Stags upset the form book that day to win 4-3 after trailing 2-0 early on.

I think there will be goals again tomorrow, and the home side will go in boosted by the re-signing of some key players over December.

Their 2-1 derby win over Pennar last time out was a vital one, and skipper Dano Kitts will again look to lead by example in midfield with his side still having work to do to pull clear of the bottom two.

Clarbie are a difficult team to predict. Their midfield has quality with the likes of Michael Turpin, Tom Reubens and player manager Matthew Ellis all capable of unlocking defences - while the goal tally of striker Jason Griffiths this season speaks for itself.

But they are also prone to off days, and a league record of won seven, drawn none, lost six, speaks volumes of their unpredictability.

I expect a tight battle with both sides scoring - but can't see a clear winner.

Score prediction: Lamphey 2-2 Clarbeston Road

Narberth v Monkton Swifts

Narberth have surpassed expectations to lie third in the table - the question now is whether they can sustain it.

They are certainly well placed to do so, with Dafydd Wright's great goalscoring form in late 2017 aided by the return of Luke Raymond of Haverfordwest County, and Jordan Williams from West Dragons.

They will look to pick up where they left off at Jesse Road tomorrow, although they play a fifth placed Monkton team who would actually be level with them on points were it not for having three deducted.

The goals of James Russell were their main weapon during the first half of the season, but like so many others, will have to shake off ring-rust having not played since losing 4-0 to Merlins Bridge on December 9th.

And although The Swifts will test them, I make Morgan Preece and Adie Jones' men favourites here.

Score prediction: Narberth 3-1 Monkton Swifts

Neyland v West Dragons

The Nomads showed signs of improvement towards the end of the year, while The Dragons have endured mixed fortunes in their last two games.

They delivered a great defensive effort to draw 0-0 at Hakin, before conceding five to lose at Herbie the following week - although managed four goals themselves with a hat trick on his debut for Liam Sheehan.

He could again be key for them tomorrow, whilst Neyland have been boosted by the return from injury of youngster Geraint Rees, their standout player earlier in the season.

Stats are not everything, but The Dragons have not won away in the league since August 29th - beating Clarbie Road 5-1. It's that fact which sways me towards Neyland here.

Score prediction: Neyland 2-1 West Dragons

Pennar Robins v Milford United

After a terrific run of 16 points from 18, Chris Lloyd's Pennar side went off the boil in December with back to back defeats against Neyland and Lamphey.

But that run has still meant they are nine points clear of the bottom two, and a win tomorrow against the league's bottom side will make them all but safe.

Milford have battled all season and positives have emerged through a number of young players, most notably Lewis Tee - but their lack of firepower means their chances of a great escape are minimal.

They simply have to win at Bush Camp if they are to upset the odds and bridge the current 11 point gap to safety, but although this will be tight, I suspect Pennar will edge it at home.
