Jimmy Allen Cup Final:

With a break of 32, Alan Griffiths sealed victory for the Balfour Club A in the Jimmy Allen Cup final at the Waterloo Club last Monday night.

Playing in the final frame of doubles, Alan kepts his nerve to put together a winning contribution at a vital time in the match.

The Balfour Club and the Power Station are the two top teams in the league and no quarter was given in a tight and very tense final - played over two singles and two doubles matches on an aggregate score basis.

There was tit-for-tat scoring in a tight first frame between Simon Pearce (Balfour) and former county champion Mike Dearden, but Mike got in to pot the blue, pink and black to win by 16 points after Simon missed a sitter on the blue.

Terry McBride and Raymond Hoare (Balfour) were always in the lead in the next frame with a small break each and the low scoring colours. But good support play by Paul Grimwood and a small break as well as the blue, pink and black by Paul 'Chalky' White saw the Power Station only lose by only nine points.

Anthony Griffiths (Balfour) did really well to keep current county champion Gareth Aries under wraps in the next frame. Gareth did battle his way back into contention but a couple of small breaks early on by Anthony put the pressure on and the high scoring colours saw him win by 22 points.

Alan Griffiths' break in the last frame coupled with a lead of 15 points, saw him and his partner Paul Harries see out the frame, and when Paul cleared the last four colours it was all over for the Power Station pair of Dai King and Jeff Hall.

Defan Hughes, Wyn Walters and Richard Hughes of the Waterloo were in charge of proceedings.
