Pembrokeshire Under 10s (122-3) beat Carmarthenshire Under 10s (120 all out) by 7 wickets

Coach Steve Lewis was understandably delighted after seeing his young Pembrokeshire squad put in an excellent all round performance to comprehensively beat a strong Carmarthenshire team in Cresselly.

The Pembrokeshire youngsters bowled out their opponents for a decent 120 runs in 29.2 overs  and then chased it down in only 19.4 overs with 7 wickets in hand.

The day started in the best way possible for Pembrokeshire with Cian Rees (1-2) bowling the opening batsman with the first ball of the match. Oscar Lewis (2-) picked up a second wicket soon after, before Cellan Alcock (21) and Hugh Randell (14) put on 30.

But once Alcock had been dismissed the Pembrokeshire bowlers picked up regular wickets. William Harries bowled his left arm spin to good effect in a spell of 1-13, his  wicket courtesy of a smart stumping from keeper Rhys Phelps. William also impressed in the field, striking with a direct hit run out.

Oscar Willington (2-10) came back for a second spell to shift Jacob Williams (10) and Matthew Mitchell (10). Rhys Phelps then shed the wicket keeping gloves – Dylan Sine taking over – to pick up 1-2. It was then left to George Morgan (2-18) to take the final wicket and close the innings on 120.

Following a lovely tea, the Pembrokeshire boys maintained the focus needed to chase victory. Owen Grieve and Oscar Willington opened, putting on 17 before Owen was bowled by Luke Owen (1-13).

Oscar was joined by Logan Hall and these two young players set about building a wonderful partnership of 86, taking their team to within 19 runs of victory.

Neither gave a single chance to the Carmarthenshire bowlers throughout, showing real maturity.

Logan (17) hit three excellent boundaries in his innings before he was bowled by Steff Davies (1-13). Dylan James came in next and looked settled until falling to a smart catch off the bowling of Alex King (1-14).

Oscar was then joined by Rhys Phelps and these two eased their team to victory with over 15 overs to spare. Oscar batted very well for his 49 not out, including eight boundaries, ending up one short of a deserved half-century. Rhys (13 not out) looked confident and settled matters with a glorious extra cover drive to round off a great performance by the team.
