Joe Lennon Memorial Cup semi final: Herbrandston 4-0 Milford Athletic

A hat trick from Scott Reid secured Herbie a spot in the Joe Lennon final for the first time as they overcame a dogged display from Milford Athletic at Marble Hall on Monday night.

Herbie’s top scorer from last season put his side in command in the first half,  latching onto a long ball over the top and finishing clinically.

He doubled the lead before the break following good build up play from Joel Yeomans and Ryan Nolan.

To Athletic’s credit, the Division Three side didn’t cave in and battled hard all over the pitch, but Reid made the game safe midway through the second half, sealing his hat trick with a neat header from Jake Barret’s cross.

Ryan Nolan then grabbed the fourth goal, dinking a shot over Athletic keeper Jamie Bird from 12 yards out, giving new manager Sean Thomas a winning start to his reign at Herbie.

Tomorrow night (Wednesday), the second semi final between Hakin United and hosts Milford is due to take place. The Robins won the inaugural competition back in 2011, but since then The Vikings have captured the trophy for six successive seasons.

The final is on Friday with a 6.15pm kick off at Marble Hall.
