THE busy schedule of club competitions continued over the weekend at Wenvoe Castle and unusually some heavy rain showers were welcomed as the course certainly need some water to soften the baked fairways.

There were two board competitions on offer and both attracted large entries.

First up on Saturday was the 75th Anniversary Cup a stableford pairs competition for both Ladies and Gentlemen.

The winning pair was Gary Butt and Alun Wheatley who recorded and excellent score of 45 points. Runners up were Craig Miller and Terry O’Grady with 44 points ahead of Glyn Jones and Terry Parsons on countback.

On Sunday the very popular President’s Bowl was played as an individual stableford for both Ladies and Gentlemen, all keen to get their hands on this prestigious trophy.

The winner was Andrew Canning who posted a remarkable score of 43 points to be well ahead of the field and genuinely won’t be too unhappy to see his handicap tumble by a couple of strokes.

The runner up was Karen Ball who recorded the best Ladies score of with an excellent 38 points and squeezing out club captain Mike Chick by the narrowest of margins on count back.

Club president Colin Champ kindly provided each player with a well-received basket meal as part of the traditional post game refreshments and thanked all the members for supporting the competition.

He gave particular thanks to the green keeping staff for preparing the course in challenging weather conditions and the club staff for their excellent service throughout the day.

While the competition season gradually draws to a close with Finals Day in early September there is plenty of opportunity to play on a fine championship course.

Green fees are available but why not take advantage of a heavily discounted membership offer for £300 starting immediately and running through to the end of February 2019.

There are other offers and opportunities for those new to golf and the club are particularly committed to encourage ladies and young players to take up this very healthy sport at a very friendly and welcoming members club.

Please contact the club secretary Nicola Sims on 02920 594371 who will provide all the details.
