Varun Nambiar and Mithun Anthony did superbly well to finish as runners-up in the Welsh badminton under-11s final at Llanelli, recently.

Both boys from Haverfordwest junior club played exceptionally well as a duo and beat boys they had earlier lost to in the singles, as they topped their pool without losing a match.

They went through to a very tough semi-final and lost the first game, before levelling up the second and just edging the third game 22-20.

They were up against a very talented pair in the final but battled all the way, before eventually losing 21-14, 21-15. It was a fitting reward for their efforts in training at Haverfordwest and a proud moment for their parents who take them to tournaments around Wales.

As a result, the boys will undoubtedly be asked to take part in the Welsh under-13 squad – a similar route to that taken by Jordan Hart.

Varun completed a very good day by winning the plate singles.
