International success for local runners


Four women Trot runners represented Wales at the British and Irish Masters cross country race which was held in Birmingham recently. Ann Thomas was fourth in her age group, a fantastic achievement and won a gold team medal. Caroline Jones and Lindy Eynon both ran in the age group above Ann and won a bronze team medal. Pauline Thomas, a stalwart of cross-country also won a bronze team medal. Ian Williams was second Welshman at the Brighton 10Km.

Trots were well represented in Bath at the cross-country race, the second race in the Gwent league. Seven Trot men competed, with Paul Hayes coming 89th overall and second over-50 to finish. Kevin Griffiths was 94th; Roger Coombs 157th; Jon Hancock 198th; Les Watson 207th; Ian Morris 266th and Ron Anthony 283rd. Ten women ran for the Trots team that was placed third, but remain top of division one. Final positions of the women are as follows: Caryl Jones 5th; Ann Thomas 15th; Mel Watson 28th; Caroline Jones 49th; Mary Bowen Rees 50th; Megan Thomas 55th; Lindy Eynon 83rd; Helen Williams 92nd; Ann Rowell 132nd and Pauline Thomas 156th Five women travelled to Venice to run the marathon — Lon Morgan, her daughter, Amanda, Liz Dutch, Pauline Thomas and Liz Richards.
