THIRTY-one swimmers from Pembrokeshire took part in the recent Welsh Age Group Champion-ships at the Wales National Pool Swansea.

The youngsters, from Haverfordwest Seals, Pembroke and District, Tenby Dolphins, Fishguard Flyers and Milford Haven – swam together as Pembrokeshire County Swimming.

More swimmers qualified to swim this year than 2011, gaining 140 personal bests from 224 swims (62.5%).

Pembrokeshire were chasing last year’s total of 45 medals, with many swimmers swimming out of age and with one more year left in their own age band.

In total, the county team achieved 36 medals from two relays and 11 swimmers, an improvement on 2010’s total of 22 medals.

Swimmers to gain Welsh regional squad times included Jordan Harding in the 200 metre back crawl, Kelsey Williams in the 400m individual medley, Carys Thomas in the 400m individual medley and 800m front crawl.

Seven national qualifying times were gained.

These were by Kelsey Williams in the 200m breaststroke and 400m individual medley, Jordan Harding in the 100m and 200m back crawl, and Carys Thomas in the 200m and 400m individual medley, and 800m front crawl.

There were 70 finals places from 20 swimmers (including four reserves) with the following medals.

Ten golds (one relay gold), 14 silvers, and 12 bronzes (one relay bronze) were achieved.

Carys Thomas, Hannah Saunders, Jordan Harding, Ffion Davies, Kelsey Williams were crowned Welsh champions.

The medal winners were Dan Thomas, Dan Davies, Hazel Fox, Isabelle Davies, Michael Hire, Carys Thomas, Ffion Davies, Hannah Saunders, Kelsey Williams, Jordan Harding and Isabel Johns and the girls relay team 4 x 100m medley and 4 x 100m freestyle.
