World champion Jonnie Peacock has vowed there is more to come as he prepares to return to athletics after a year off.

The 25-year-old is due to compete again in September at the Great City Games in Newcastle.

He has one eye on defending his title at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai having taken time out since winning the T44 100m in London last year.

Peacock came eighth on Strictly Come Dancing last year – the first disabled dancer to compete on the television show – but is ready to make his track comeback.

He told Press Association Sport: “I am still an athlete and that is my job. It’s been fun doing different stuff and from that, if I can bring a few more people looking at the sport, that would be really cool.

“But I’m not done yet, I’ve done some good things but there’s still a lot more I’m capable of.

“It’s not the best thing the Worlds are in November but that will be something I’ll try to head towards. I don’t know how fast I’ll be running at that time of the year as the gear will be to towards Tokyo (the 2020 Paralympics) but it’s definitely in the sights.

“Last year I went straight from the World Championships to Strictly, to the Strictly tour and bits filming-wise.

“I’ve had a few months off which has been really nice but I’ve got back into training and life is getting back to normal.

“I was missing it by Christmas time, I remember going back to the track after I got kicked out (of Strictly) and doing a really hard session but I loved it.”

Now, Peacock is taking part in the Superhero Series, which is dedicated to the UK’s 13.3 million people with disabilities and long-term injuries.

He will captain Team npower for the Superhero Tri event at Dorney Lake, Windsor on August 18.

More than 1,700 participants took part in the 2017 event, with more than 2,000 already signing up this year.

“It’s a really good event and really important,” he said.

“Getting into events isn’t easy and some people might have to adapt a lot. This is one where it’s normal.

“People like myself are lucky they can go into athletics clubs without too many issues but some might need extra equipment and they are still sport mad and want to get involved.

“It’s growing in popularity. It’s really going well.”
